Burn Mill

The Lauderdale Development Trust has applied to the Big Lotteries fund for a grant to help with renovating the Burnmill site in Lauder.

Based on evidence from the SCARF survey, LDT have plans to restore and extend the mill building to create premises which can be used for a childcare nursery. A community garden will be created next to it.

This is a big project, and LDT are working in conjunction with Lauder Common Good Fund, Borders Council, and Lauder Community Council. However, this project is not going to succeed without community support. Your ideas and support are very welcome. The current plans are not set in stone, but it is not possible to progress without a plan, so if you have a contribution to make then please contact us.

Burn Mill Today

Although the mill looks beyond rescue we've been assured the building itself (but not the roof) is in quite good condition. We are still pursuing a Lottery grant to restore the mill and turn it into a childcare nursery. The site housed a gas works at one time. Bill Walker found us these photos. The modern photos were taken by Ria Lewis.
