Battery recycling collection points are located in SBC Contact centres, some Primary and Secondary schools (see list below), Public libraries and one in Reception at SBC HQ. All batteries can be recycled including:
Zinc-carbon and zinc-chloride, alkaline, button cell, ainc-air, silver oxide button cells and lithium button cells
In Lauderdale, Rutherford of Lauder shop has a collection point.

- Recycling batteries recovers the valuable metals and saves energy by reducing the need for raw materials
- In the UK more than 600 m batteries (22,000 tonnes) are sold every year, with only 5% being recycled
- The UK has adopted the EU's Batteries Directive through the Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations
- By 2012 25 percent of all batteries sold must be recycled, and 45 percent by 2016
